UK's top 100 restaurants

Regularly there is an increasing number of Guides and award ceremonies acknowledging the top restaurants right across the UK with venues keen to be named. From these listings Eat Out has researched its own ultimate Top 100 and Alan Sutton describes how this has been achieved.

FOCUSING ON THE BEST

The British public’s love affair with eating out has increasingly, over recent years, turned into a passion.

As home-grown chefs have, at the very least, competed neck and neck with those imported from France, Switzerland, Germany and other parts of Europe; as the formerly once-unknown British Michelin star has been sprinkled liberally to the farthest reaches of our islands; so it would seem has become the need for more and more organisations, publishers and associations to issue their own gastronomic recognition.

So, it has been to those we have looked to try to determine which really are considered the best restaurants in Britain.

We have scoured the internet, scanned every restaurant guide, asked Eat Out readers, looked at regional and local newspapers, trade publications and as many other handers-out of awards as we could find to produce our list. Restaurants have been awarded one point for every accolade received in 2007/8, and we have taken into account any Michelin stars they hold, whenever they were gained.

From the evidence gathered we have compiled our Top 100 of Eat Out’s Best of the Best UK Restaurants.
