Bartender at The Dorchester tops Calvados cocktail contest

8th June 2009, 3:57pm

Stefano Cossio, a bartender at The Dorchester in London's Park Lane, has beaten 150 cocktail professionals from 13 countries to take top prize in the Calvados Nouvelle Vogue International Trophy.

Competing in Caen, in the heart of the apple and pear Calvados distilling country, Cossio's winning creation entitled 'Pomme Allure' featured Calvados, peach liqueur, Manzana Verde, peppermint bitter and an orange twist.

Cossio takes the title of European Champion as well as winning a silver cocktail shaker and a holiday in Normandy.

He said: "I was inspired by a classic Stinger and the desire to blend fruit flavours with Calvados which is a great base spirit for cocktails. It clearly worked."

The Calvados Nouvelle Vogue International Trophy takes place every year in Normandy. The contest is organised by the Calvados Association IDAC and funded by Calvados producers, among them Calvados Boulard.
