West Cornwall Pasty Co. unveils plans to launch 15 ventures this year

18th January 2010, 9:12am

West Cornwall Pasty Co. has plans to add another 15 shops and kiosks to its portfolio this year in areas such as Manchester, Nottingham, Twickenham and Bournemouth.

This, together with an extensive refurbishment plan and a range of new products planned for this year (including breakfasts, pizzas and other varieties of pasty fillings) helps West Cornwall Pasty Co to maintain its position as the UK's leading Cornish pasty retailer.

In the last year alone the company, which specialises in selling traditional handmade, high quality Cornish pasties, has opened 14 new shops and kiosks across the UK - in York, Liverpool, Ellesmere Port, Lincoln, Shrewsbury, Leicester, Solihull, Bristol, Taunton, Oxford, Hemel Hempstead, London, Colchester and Worthing.

Chief executive Richard Nieto said: "2009 was undoubtedly a tough year for many retailers, but we managed to weather the storm simply by offering quality products at good prices. People are still watching their pockets but Cornish pasties represent great value for money as a hearty, filling meal."

Nieto added: "We are proud of our Cornish roots and very much want to enable those outside of Cornwall to experience traditional, top quality Cornish pasties first hand. And with so many high streets in towns and cities currently without a Cornish pasty shop, there is still so much potential for further growth in the UK market. We aim to have 100 shops by 2012 and are well on the way to achieving this."

West Cornwall Pasty Co's pasties are handmade in Cornwall and freshly baked in-store daily. The range includes the traditional steak pasty as well as more unusual varieties including lamb and mint, pork and apple, salmon, and chicken balti. There are also several options for vegetarians.
