Voting begins in Fish & Chip Shop of the Year contest

14th August 2009, 10:24am

Participating fish fryers throughout the country are about to start the first round of the national Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition 2009.

The customer voting round will start on Friday 21 August through to Friday 4 September. The shops with the highest customer votes will get a chance to be in the top five shops for their area.

The nationwide competition is organised into 19 different geographical areas with a total of 95 shops being shortlisted in this first stage every year.

Daniel Pettitt, owner of Daniel's Fish & Chips in Weymouth made the top ten last year. He said: "As a newcomer to the competition, it was one of the highlights of my career to date and the publicity it brings is worth the hard work my staff put in throughout the year. The profile of our shop has grown and we now have customers coming from far and wide to taste our fish and chips."

Nikki Hawkins, project manager for the competition, said: "The industry as a whole has benefitted with more shops not only focusing on providing a quality product, but also concentrating on sourcing responsibly. It's great to reward those that are committed in producing excellent quality fish and chips."

I give my vote to 'The Frying Fish' in Swindon, Fish is cooked to order and the chips are the best, just as you expect them to be chunky and full of flavour, you will never have a bad supper from this establishment at last a chippy that takes a pride in what they do best!

Have your say!
