Visits to the UK increase while ‘staycations’ continue to grow

17th March 2010, 11:52am

The Office of National Statistics has today announced that the number of visits from overseas residents to the UK has increased.

From November 2009 to January 2010 visits totalled 7.4 million, up by 2% compared with the previous three months and up 3% against the same time period last year.

The increase in visits was driven primarily by holiday visits, although there is also some indication of a rise in business visits over recent months following a strong decline in the last year.

Visits abroad by UK residents, meanwhile have continued to decline.
