Vegetarian Society Awards 2008 shortlist announced

The Vegetarian Society has today announced the products and venues shortlisted for its 2008 Awards.

The nominations for the awards were voted for through the charity's website and members' magazine.

The Awards are in their eighth year and promote best practice among caterers, manufacturers and retailers, and highlight the importance of integrity in the vegetarian marketplace.

Best UK Independent Restaurant for Vegetarian Food
Canteen, Cardiff
Dandelion & Burdock, Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire
Demuths, Bath
Relish, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire
The Waiting Room, Stockton on Tees, County Durham

Best UK Independent Pub for Vegetarian Food
The George, Brighton
The Red Lion, Great Bricett, Suffolk
The 78, Glasgow

Best Vegetarian Ready-made Dessert
Alpro Soya Dessert – Chocolate flavour
Gü Little Pots au Chocolat
Marks & Spencer Melty Middle Chocolate Dessert
Swedish Glace Ice cream – Vanilla flavour

Nominations will now be reviewed by a panel of judges and mystery diners will be visiting venues.

The winners will be announced in mid October.
