Urban Angel introduces 50 Mile Menu

1st September 2009, 4:37pm

Edinburgh's Urban Angel, which specialises in food that is local, organic, seasonal, free-range and fairly traded, has introduced a new '50 Mile Menu'.

The two course menu, for £18, has been sourced entirely locally, from within a 50 mile radius of central Edinburgh.  The aim is to support local farmers, reduce food miles and also to allow customers to enjoy the very best of local produce.

The menu changes daily and includes dishes such as baby black pudding with bacon and herb cracked wheat salad, smoked mozzarella crostini with organic cherry vine tomato stew and organic lamb gigot with mint crust and garlic potatoes.

Urban Angel is also renowned for its range of pastries and cakes, which are all baked on the premises by new pastry chef, Hubert Lamort.  Diners with a sweet tooth can enjoy delights such as raspberry tarts, hazelnut meringue, home made ice creams and trifle, as well as the more unusual chocolate and beetroot cake.

A wide range of croissants, almond croissants, pain au chocolat, scones, muffins and cupcakes - made with natural colourings and flavourings such as orange juice and raspberry juice is also available.
