UK restaurant trade to be 'boosted' by new 118 118 service

16th October 2009, 8:41am

Hungry callers looking for a restaurant or a takeaway can now phone 118 118 after the directory operator launched a real time restaurant booking and selection service.

118 118 has teamed up with Livebookings offering callers a one-stop 'dial & dine' service, where they can quiz the operator about menu choices, book directly, get a recommendation or such details as opening hours, address or specials.

It means that no further call is needed and, as a 24/7 365 days a year service, reservations for restaurants registered with Livebookings can be taken at any time, even when the restaurant is closed.

The service is also looking to create a 'menupedia', as Zoe Dawson-Williams, 118 118's Product and Business Development Director, explained: "118 118 is offering the opportunity to convert our 40,000 daily leads into bookings, giving more convenience and choice. We're a significant new channel for restaurants, with a heavyweight marketing campaign to match.

"No-one has ever thought to compile the nation's menus before, to create the world's first menupedia – already 30,000 menus strong and growing by thousands a week. And we're partnering with Livebookings, assuring restaurants of the best and biggest booking service. We'd therefore urge restaurants that haven't already done so to get registered and send us your menus."

Peter Clack, Livebookings' Network Partnerships Manager for the UK & Ireland, added: "Our partnership with 118 118 is fantastic news for restaurants and substantially strengthens our ability to fill restaurants with diners. The implementation of our technology means that callers will be advised of actual table availability and given the opportunity to book at thousands of restaurants across the country. Alongside this, the public will also be able to search and book restaurants online at 118118.com."

Wonder how long it will be until they team up/buy out 118menu.co.uk. Now that would be a partnership!
