UK bartenders win 42 Below Cocktail World Cup

17th September 2008, 11:26am

A team of three UK bartenders have won the fifth 42 Below Cocktail World Cup after five days of cocktail making in Queenstown, New Zealand.

The talented bartenders to take part in the event were Joshua Ivanovic, Sean Ware and John Goodman.

The master mixologists competed against 14 other teams from around the world and won the challenge with their 'Ale of Two Cities', a cocktail inspired by the classic English Pint.

The winning recipe combined 42 Below Feijoa flavoured vodka, vermouth, apple juice, nettle cordial, malt syrup, freshly squeezed lime juice and Angostura bitters that were shaken and strained into a classic beer Pint glass. To complete the cocktail creation the team fried chips to accompany their cocktail before presenting it to the judges.

Judge Jonathan Downey commented on the UK's talent: "I have never attended a cocktail event where there has been so much creativity, so many new ideas, so much originality and attention to detail, it was just incredible."
