James Gray, formerly general manager of Yates's in York this week starts his new role as area manager overseeing 14 pubs across the North East.
As manager of Yates's in York for six years James introduced several marketing and promotional initiatives that have since been adopted elsewhere within the estate.
During this period he successfully built the pub into the 3rd largest student site within the group with a facebook following of over 3000.
James has also been instrumental along with area manager Jon Perkins in developing 'Acorns to Oaks', a programme for deputy managers to develop skills needed to bridge the gap to becoming a general manager.
Commenting on the appointment Julie Lodge, Operations Director - North, said, "James has been a superb manager at Yates's York and is well deserved of his new role as area manager. He excels across all areas of the business from managing staff, developing promotions, controlling budgets and finances and of course, engaging with the customer.
"Since last August James has been overseeing a cluster of four pubs within the York area in addition to his general manager role so he is well placed to take this next step. We look forward to him bringing his enthusiasm, drive and ideas to other sites and managers across his patch."
James's appointment follows that of Mark Walter who in March 2009 was promoted from general manager of Owain Glyndwr in Cardiff to area manager for 14 pubs in the South West.
