Big Pubcos are charging an average of between £2.16 and £3.06 for a pint of lager which is between 7p and 80p above the average price at managed houses.
Data has found that the average price of a pint of draught standard lager in pubs in Britain is £2.50. The average price of a pint of draught standard bitter is £2.24 while the average price of a pint of premium bottled and canned lager is £2.54.
The average price for standard lager in the North East is £2.26 which has the lowest average prices in Britain. The average price for standard lager in London is £2.72 which is the highest in Britain.
Samuel Smith managed pubs in Yorkshire are selling the cheapest pint of standard lager in Britain at an average of £1.68 a pint. Wetherspoon pubs in the North East are selling the second cheapest pint of standard lager at an average of £1.78 a pint.
Meanwhile at the other end of the scale, customers of bars of the InterContinental Hotels Group are being charged an average of between £3.53 and £3.30 for a pint of standard lager in a number of regions are paying most. The next most expensive is Young's managed pubs in London where the price is an average of £3.25 a pint of standard lager.
Martin Smith, GMB national organiser said: "GMB is campaigning to end the tie to secure lower prices for customers and a better living for the pub tenants. GMB is submitting this analysis to the Office of Fair Trading and to the European Union to get follow up on the Business and Enterprize Select Committee Report which called for action on tie. GMB will be asking the TUC unions to help the tied pub tenants, the newest group of workers to join the trade union ranks."
