The hunt begins to find Britain's best Chinese restaurant

9th July 2010, 9:23am

TV chef Ching He Huang has teamed up with Chinese beer, Tsingtao, to find Britain's favourite Chinese restaurant.

In its third year, Tsingtao's Legacy of Taste competition highlights the importance of quality and attention to detail in Chinese restaurants; specifically food, service and surroundings. The public reward the restaurants that, in their opinion, set the best standards for Chinese dining.

Huang said: "The increasing popularity of Chinese food in Britain is well documented, much of its popularity seems to be due to its taste and the minimal cooking time of the dishes, which as well as being convenient, ensures the dishes retain their nutritional value, making them a healthy choice.

"Chinese cooking is a clever art and it's important that its transition into western society allows it to remain faithful to its heritage. The Legacy of Taste competition will provide an opportunity to uncover some undiscovered Chinese restaurants that get the food just perfect.

"We're on the hunt for restaurants that go the extra mile for their customers, the ones that people go back to again and again because no other place matches up to it – it could be a tiny, independent back street place or part of a well known chain."

To nominate visit www.legacyoftaste.co.uk. Nominations close mid-July for the dining public and then public voting will begin. The four restaurants with the most votes will compete in autumn when Ching will lead a panel of experts to judge which restaurant will be crowned The Legacy of Taste champion of 2010.

The winning restaurant will be presented with the award at Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton, the hotel sponsor of the campaign, on October 28, 2010. One person who voted for the winning restaurant will be picked at random to win a trip for two to China.
