The catering team at Sheffield Hallam University raise over £6k for The Children's Hospital

14th March 2011, 10:30am

The Catering Services team at Sheffield Hallam University have helped raise more than £6,000 for The Children's Hospital, Sheffield.

The team worked with Coca Cola Enterprises to donate five pence from every bottle of Abbey Well Water sold in its deli bars and restaurants - raising £6,218.40 to buy four new specialist beds for the hospital.

Sheffield Hallam's catering services raised the second highest amount of all the universities who took part.

The money donated will be spent on four profiling beds (£6,000) which will be used on the hospital's Neurosciences Ward, for children who have various movement disorders. The remainder (£218.40) will be put towards two hoists for Ryegate House, which provides respite care for children with complex neurological conditions.

Susan Walker, campus catering manager at Sheffield Hallam, said: "Catering Services are proud to support local charities, schools and colleges. We are delighted to have raised this significant amount of cash which will really benefit The Children's Hospital."

Cheryl Ridge, fundraiser at The Children's Hospital Charity, added: "We are extremely grateful to Sheffield Hallam University and Coca-Cola for this generous donation and to all the staff and students who through their purchases contributed to this fantastic total.

"The money will make a real difference to our young patients using Ryegate House and the hospital's Neurosciences Ward and will help the hospital remain a centre of excellence for paediatric care."
