The Old Ship comes to Hackney

27th March 2008, 1:53pm

Scott Wade, the chef behind the award-winning Docklands gastro-pub The Gun, has recently opened the doors to his latest venture, The Old Ship, in the heart of Hackney, offering 'traditional favourites with fresh new twists'.

The menu at the eatery features seasonal British produce such as shoulder of mutton with spring vegetables, barley broth and fillet of organic salmon from Clarelsland dressed with savoy cabbage, dill seed cream and bergamot oil.

For vegetarians, the options include warm goat's cheese salad with bitter leaves, pear walnuts and Welsh Glamorgan sausages made from leeks and Caerphilly cheese.

Classic choices on the menu include Yorkshire rhubarb crumble with cinnamon ice cream and lemon posset with blood orange jelly accompanied by a British cheese platter with grapes and Bath Oliver's biscuit.

David Catling, founder of Urban Inn, commented: "We have wonderful produce in the British Isles and supporting British farmers is a pivotal aim of The Old Ship as well as reducing our eco footprint.

"Our menu changes quarterly to work with the latest cuts and harvests and I'm sure our diners will be delighted by the variety and choice of offer. We hope to demonstrate that it is possible to source the finest quality British produce, without the premium price tag usually associated with it."

Upstairs from The Old Ship is 10 boutique rooms which feature wireless internet access and widescreen LCD's TV. Rooms are priced at £79.95 for singles and £99.95 for doubles.

The Old Ship officially opened its doors on 22 March.
