The hotel scooped the award for the best Marketing Campaign which saw the hotel install five bee hives on its roof. The installation of the bees not only helps the depleting bee population, but also reduces the air miles of the honey being served at the hotel. The initiative attracted the attention of press around the world and has been a fantastic way to further enhance the hotel's green initiatives.
Stephen Kyjak-Lane, general manager at the Lancaster London, said: "We are delighted to have been given this fantastic award. Our hotel is dedicated to its environmental policies and our philosophy to walk softly on the planet. For our team to be recognised for all their hard work is truly uplifting.
"It is essential to make our guests, suppliers and employees aware the hotel's environmental ethos and the bees have proved to be an invaluable tool for this communication."
The Gala Lunch and Awards, which took place on Wednesday (2 June) at The Dorchester Hotel, are organised by the Considerate Hoteliers Association. They recognise hotels which are leading the way in environmental policies and practices.
