The Brunel opens with new look

5th November 2008, 12:48pm

The Brunel has recently launched on the site of the S Bar in Battersea, with a brand new name and look.

The 19th Century corner site on Battersea Bridge Road pays homage to the Brunels, the famous engineering empire who lived nearby and had a factory opposite the site that produced boots for Wellington's army at the Battle of Waterloo.

The establishment's bar offers freshly-made cocktails, a short but carefully chose wine list, a selection of bottled and draft beer and a late licence.

Designed by Concorde BGW, the venue features a colour scheme of deep olive greens and gun metal greys with Louis-style chairs, William Morris fabric, red leather seating and polished dark wood floors.

Key features include two vast light globes fashioned from de-constructed tea chests and a backlit bar.

Another highlight of the eatery is the Kingdom, the upstairs function room. Free to hire, the space holds up to 200 guests and is ideal for parties, engagements and big birthday bashes.

Edwin Vaux, owner of The Brunel, commented: "This is a really exciting time for The Brunel. The new look absolutely confirms the bar's position as the number one local venue. For the price of hiring a tiny little booth in some club on the other side of the river, guests can get an entire bar in Kingdom upstairs – with staff and late license – to themselves for the whole night."
