The Ambrette restaurant introduces 18 course Taste Sensation menu

17th August 2010, 8:07am

The Ambrette Restaurant, the Michelin-listing Indian fine dining establishment in Margate, is to serve an 18-course 'Taste Sensation' menu every Sunday evening throughout September, for £49.99.

Executive chef Dev Biswal commented: "Our reputation for a unique culinary style means that many of our customers travel considerable distances to taste our cooking – only 5 percent of the two and a half thousand customers on our database live in Thanet."

The venture's Indian Thali concept is a selection of different dishes, usually served in small bowls on a round tray. Ideas have also been borrowed from Ayurveda ( The 'science of life') a system of traditional medicine native to India.

Ayurveda follows a food classification system that categorized any food item as saatvic, raajsic or taamsic . Each was deemed to have a powerful effect on the body and the mind.

The 18 course sampler has been carefully designed with fresh raajsic ingredients and spices - its fresh ingredients cooked with a variety of spices.

The menu will include gourmet items such as Indian ocean tiger prawns with ginger and rosemary, char grilled brochettes of lamb and Kentish pork ribs with fennel and sesame seeds.
