Tenant plans micro brewery after acquiring freehold

20th October 2009, 3:47pm

Acting on behalf of experienced operator Peter Dalton, Christie + Co has acquired the freehold interest of the Horse & Jockey pub in Chorlton Green from Punch Taverns, for an undisclosed sum.

Peter, who previously operated the iconic Manto bar in the city's Canal Street, had been out of the licensed trade for eight months when he acquired the lease of the former Spirit managed house in December 2008.

He has invested around £300,000 in a complete refurbishment of the business, which included the addition of a 40-cover restaurant.

After completing the purchase of the pub at the end of September, Peter now plans to further develop the business with the addition of six boutique bedrooms and a micro brewery within the site's former brewery tower.

Keith Stringer, Associate Director of Christie + Co, said: "We are delighted to have been able to help Peter acquire the freehold of a business in which he has but so much time and effort into, We are confident that the pub will continue to go from strength to strength through his new plans for the business and stewardship."

Funding for the pub's acquisition was provided by Michael Hughes of Downing Corporate Finance with funds from several Enterprise Investment Schemes operated by Downing.
