TV's Dermot O' Leary backs maritime charity event with his Fishy Fishy restaurant

9th September 2010, 12:27pm

A familiar face from the television will join the supporters of maritime charity Seafood UK after presenter Dermot O' Leary put his seafood restaurant forward as one of the companies who will support Seafarers UK Fish and Chip Feast.

Dermot O' Leary's Fishy Fishy Seafood Brasserie will join other companies that are "associated with the sea" on 24 September in creating "special fish dishes" to be sold with a percentage of the proceeds going to charity.

And the organisers are calling on more businesses including restaurants, cafes, pubs, fish and chip shops and staff canteens to get involved in the event and serve up fish and chips to raise funds for Seafarer UK.

Other Maritime companies already signed up include Maersk, DFDS Seaways (formerly Norfolk Lines), NYK Group Europe, and Fish 'n' Chick 'n and more the organisers are calling for more businesses to get involved.

By supporting the Fish & Chip Feast, companies will be helping fishing communities, which often face problems like poverty, disability and bereavement as a result of their occupation.

Deep sea fishing is described as one of the UK's most dangerous jobs and over 45% of fishermen have needed medical care in order to continue working at sea.

Seafarers UK's Director General Commodore Barry Bryant said: "We are delighted that companies are supporting Seafarers UK by taking part in the Fish & Chip Feast. Fishing communities often face problems and rely on our charity to help them. Every penny raised will go towards helping fishermen and other seafarers who are struggling in very difficult times.
