11th August 2010, 10:43am

Stanley House Hotel, Mellor, has been recognised by VisitEngland for its fine dining, achieving an ‘excellent’ overall score of 87%.

The Quality Assessment scheme, which establishes quality in tourism, awarded the Mr Fred's Bar and Lounge 93% for food quality and 100% for hospitality.

In June, Stanley House celebrated the completion of the first phase of its redevelopment programme which includes an all glass restaurant for Mr Fred's, overlooking the gardens.

Assessor, Graham Morphy-Morris said: "Mr Fred's Bistro is nestled in the heart of Stanley House Hotel and offers an excellent high standard of culinary dining. Its imaginative menu's features an abundance of local produce.

"Extremely positive efforts are made to ensure guests receive the best possible experience, and Stanley House continues to present to an excellent standard throughout."

Mr Fred's offers diners a choice of locally sourced produce including beer battered Whitby haddock with chunky chips and mushy peas, hickory smoked chicken with apple and walnut mayonnaise and a selection of home-made ice creams and sorbets. The menu sampled by Mr Morphy-Morris received 'excellent' for flavour and overall quality.

Further redevelopments at the hotel include a new covered walkway and entrance to the hotel, a dedicated car park and a new entrance for fine dining restaurant Cassis.

Commenting on the success of the assessment, general manager Philip Wharton said: "We place great emphasis on service and quality so we are thrilled that this has been recognised.

"Since the redevelopment work, we have seen an increase in diners at the Hotel and we look forward to continuing our progress."

Stanley House Hotel has also recently clinched the prestigious Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board's Business Tourism Award. The hotel is recognised regionally and nationally for the quality of its fine dining, corporate events, weddings, gourmet and romantic breaks.
