The first Blanche Eatery, which opens to the public in a matter of weeks, was established a couple of years ago but the owners wanted to expand it without becoming a roll-out high street brand. The challenge was to expand the brand keeping individuality in each branch.
The brief was to develop a look that sets Blanche Eatery apart from its competitors and offers an "authentic culinary adventure".
A spokesperson for the eatery explains the process they went through to create their culinary experience: "The design work started with a detailed questionnaire where clients were asked about the style, some important elements about the food, colours schemes, what type of clientele they wanted to target and so on.
"After that, Space Design Studios started doing the research needed. Such as, who were the main competitors, which kind of style and colours were they using, which materials and colours would match with the briefing of the client.
"As a design concept presentation Space Design Studios did a sample / mood board and internal elevations. Once the design concept was approved Space Design studios made a detailed artist impression representing how the place would become. The clients were extremely amazed by how we follow their choices and exceed their expectations at the same time."
Blanche Eatery prides itself on using only the freshest ingredients – and everything is made-to-order. It was important that this freshness was personified and reflected in the design.
To reflect on the "freshness", Space has used white paint on the walls to represent unity, simplicity and cleanliness. In contrast the designers have used a lavender shade on the table tops to reflect the elegance and royalty of the Kensington area the eatery is situated in.
A spokesperson for the design company goes into more depth: "We wanted to create a design that matches with the type of food served in the place. The whole design had to enhance the freshness and the hand made food. Due to this, one of our main challenges was to keep the white colour choosing materials that would ensure the cleanliness of the place at all the time."
Key design features include the hexagonal tiles on the floor to give a contemporary look, a feature texture wall made by a plaster artist and elements of sandblasted wood shelving which reinforce the historical selling tradition of Kensington.
Lighting plays a very important role in all of Space Design Studios projects. This time they opted to use large bronze lanterns strengthening the tradition of the surrounding area which used to be dominated by antiques shops. In addition, the framed menus and the artwork are illuminated by LED, enhancing the contemporary feel of the Delicatessen.
The whole design process took two months to be completed.
