Slug and Lettuce raises over £21k for Help for Heroes

9th February 2012, 3:23pm

High Street bar group Slug and Lettuce has raised over £21,000 for Help for Heroes in just 30 days.

The 75 strong bar operator has raised £21,992.75 for the wounded soldiers charity with Slug and Lettuce in Staines raising the most, a whopping £2779.45, through an auction with one lot giving the bidder the opportunity to experience a day on the golf greens with Hugh Grant. The group, which has had a long association with Help for Heroes, selected it as its preferred charity and challenged its managers and staff to raise as much money in their own unique way.

Each bar stepped up the plate hosting fun event nights, challenges and competitions. From fancy dress evenings, to hair-raising leg waxing and head shaving, the teams pulled out all the stops.

Nicola Stuart, brand manager for Slug and Lettuce said, "Well done to all the managers their teams and customers for a fantastic achievement. Several have really gone beyond the call of duty pushing themselves to the limits all in the name of charity.

"We've had a bunch of our barmaids attempt an army assault course in Southend, welcomed the Army Training Corp choir to Manchester and witnessed two of our team march a phenomenal 104 miles from Bath to Help for Heroes rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court. 10% from each of our specially created 'hero' cocktails was also donated to the cause."

Sophie Parry, corporate relationships manager for Help for Heroes said: "Help for Heroes is all about 'doing your bit' and the Slug and Lettuce's fundraising achievement is a real example of this. It's fantastic to see the whole chain come together in support of the charity and those we help. The fundraising was a huge success & raised much needed funds to help provide direct, practical support for our wounded guys and girls and their families for life. We would like to thank the Slug and Lettuce and all their staff for really getting behind the cause, it really will make a huge difference to our heroes."
