But now the sunshine has led a restaurateur to predict that a shisha pipe craze is set to sweep throughout Scotland's culinary scene this summer.
Imtiaz Hussain, manager at Amani, a restaurant in the heart of Leith, reports that customers are flocking to the restaurant's alfresco dining area to sample a shisha pipe and a glass of wine whilst basking in the summer sunshine.
Hussain said: "Judging by the number of customers descending on our forecourt to chill out with a shisha and a glass of wine or beer to chill out after being cooped up in a hot office all day, I'm convinced that a shisha pipe craze is ready to sweep throughout Scotland.
"This looks set to be the hottest summer for years and a fruit-flavoured shisha is the ideal way to soak up the summer sun with a refreshing beverage after a hard day's slog at the office.
"It's said that the art of smoking the shisha pipe, or hookah, teaches you patience and understanding – and that's just what many workers need when workplace tensions are exacerbated by the stifling heat."
During July Amani has been offering a shisha and two bottles of beer or two glasses of wine for £10 or a shisha with two bottles of beer or two glasses of wine and a pakora platter for £15.
