Salad cream and its sister sauce

15,000 tonnes of Heinz Salad Cream are consumed in the UK every year.

Over a third of the population have a bottle nestling in their cupboards.

Much like its sister sauce, mayonnaise, it is actually largely made up of vinegar, vegetable oil, water, mustard, and egg yolks.

Heinz salad cream was the first Heinz product to be developed exclusively for the UK market in 1914, and took eight years to perfect.

Heinz salad cream has proved its resilience during times of belt-tightening making it an ideal choice for families looking for ways to make their shopping budget work harder for them.

In fact during World War 11, when many ingredients were in short supply and even Heinz Tomato Ketchup was taken off the shelves, the nation reached out to recently invented Heinz salad cream to add a zing to often bland food.

Heinz salad cream has 66% less fat than mayonnaise and is available in light or extra light versions, making it the perfect choice for anyone watching their weight.

Heinz mayo was first introduced to the UK in sachet form 15 years ago.

However, it wasn't until 2006 when high-demand saw Heinz mayo hit supermarket shelves and quickly become a household favourite.

In 2008 some flavoursome new members joined the Heinz mayo family – the New York-inspired Heinz deli mayo range, available in sundried tomato, caramelised onion, roasted garlic and tikka flavours.
