The hotel also received a three-star hotel rating with an increased AA Merit Score of 77%.
The accolade was awarded to the hotel's fine dining restaurant, The Capella, which offers traditional English cuisine made with locally sourced Sussex ingredients.
Head chef David Shiers, who joined the Star just over a year ago, has been working with his team to bring a new level of cuisine to the restaurant.
He said: "My goal when coming to the Star was to raise the standard, but also bring attention to locally sourced Sussex products. The rosette is key to both our recognition for the improved standard and to help us market the fantastic food that comes from our local area."
David's signature dishes include Ashmore farm rump of lamb with dauphine potatoes and pea puree, and Dark chocolate mousse in a chocolate wrap and lime foam.
Damian Martin, Hotel Director for the Star Alfriston, added: "We are delighted to have been awarded our first AA rosette. We are very proud of David and his team for all their dedication and hard work. This is a great step towards our goal to develop the Capella restaurant into both a local gem and destination restaurant."
Built in the 1260's, The Star Alfriston is a 37 bedroom historic hotel situated in the centre of the South Downs National Park.
