SOUTH KOREA TRIP AWAITS WALES' BEST YOUNG CHEF

The search is on to find the best young chef in Wales who will win an exciting all expenses paid trip to South Korea to compete against the best in the world.

Chefs have until October 1 to enter the prestigious 2011 Junior Chef of Wales contest, the winner of which will represent Wales at the Junior Forum at the World Association of Chefs Societies Congress in May 2012.

The Junior Chef of Wales final is one of the showpiece events at the Welsh International Culinary Championships to be held at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru on February 22, 2011.

Organised every two years by the Welsh Culinary Association, the competition is sponsored jointly by Welsh Assembly Government to promote the food and drink industry brand 'True Taste' and Hybu Cig Cymru/ Meat Promotion Wales.

To enter, chefs must be at least 17 years old, not more than 23 on February 1, 2011 and working or studying a recognised catering course within Wales. To stand a chance of securing their place in the showpiece final, they must submit their own creative menu for a three course dinner for four persons, using a selection of True Taste award winning products.

From the entry forms and menus, a panel of judges will select the best entrants to compete in regional finals, where they will have three hours to cook their dishes. Three regional winners and the highest scoring runner up will then go through to a high profile final cook-off at the Welsh International Culinary Championships.

Apart from the all expenses trip to South Korea, the winner will also receive the coveted Welsh Dragon trophy and have the prestige of being the best junior chef in Wales.

Mr Jackson is urging talented young chefs across Wales to put their skills to the test and enter this year's competition, which could be a stepping stone to competing with the Welsh National Culinary Team.

"The Junior Chef of Wales competition provides a wonderful platform for the most talented young chefs in Wales to demonstrate their skills in front of an appreciative international audience," he said. "As an added incentive, the winner will get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete against the best in the world in South Korea in 2012."
