English operators are watching the outcome of new laws being considered for Scottish restaurants and food outlets that would force them to display certificates showing if they failto meet hygiene standards.
The Food Standards Agency has launched a pilot scheme in five areas of Scotland to make the public more aware of how premises fared in their latest inspection.
In it more than 300 premises - 10% of the total - ranging from a famous five star hotel to a number of outlets at Glasgow Airport, failed to meet legal requirements.
The FSA asked all operators to display certificates, but although many 'pass' ones appeared in windows, few, if any showed the ones indicating "improvement required".
