River Cottage - before and after the fire
The chef is away on a long distance trip filming as staff dealt with the damage today.
The fire took several hours to control after fire crews attended the blaze at around 10pm on Tuesday night.
A statement from River Cottage said: "We would like to say a big 'thank you' to the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, who were on the scene quickly and worked hard to contain the fire."
Whilst the cookery school courses are not running in the short term, River Cottage said: "Our Canteen and Deli, located in the centre of Axminster, is unaffected and remains open for business as usual."
Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue are currently investigating the incident.
