Restaurants gear up for The Ultimate Sandwich contest

14th December 2009, 12:29pm

Pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants in Sandwich, Kent, will be gearing themselves up to create The Ultimate Sandwich in a weekend event in May 2010.

The event, held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 May will coincide with British Sandwich Week. Alex Sullivan, a director of Wow Factory Events which is staging The Ultimate Sandwich event, said: "Once upon a time, people used to refer to 'the humble sandwich' – but not any more.

"Today, consumers demand imaginative fillings in the finest breads. Our competitors will show just want can be done to make the sandwich exciting eating at any time of the day."

More than 20,000 visitors are set to attend the event where they can sample Britain's best butties and watch cookery and breadmaking demonstrations and a £45,000 firework demonstration staged as part of the British National Fireworks Championship.
