Reggae Reggae sauce joins virtual conference

24th June 2008, 9:28am

Levi Roots, inventor of BBC2's Dragon's Den hit product Reggae Reggae sauce, will be among the speakers for a global conference this week aimed at boosting business for the food and drink industry.

The virtual conference this Friday (27 June) means food and drink companies anywhere will have a unique opportunity to find out what cutting edge creative industries can do for their business, without having to leave their desks or lose a day's work.

Leicester De Montfort University's Professor of Forecasting and Innovation, James Woudhuysen will also predict some of the up and coming trends for businesses to watch out for as part of the online event, which is called Getting Creative in the Food Industry.

Delegates can watch the presentations online and simultaneously join online discussions with each speaker without leaving their offices. After the seminar additional information and advice will be available to view or download, giving a unique pool of information long after the conference has finished.

Iona Cruickshank, who leads the Creative Industries Knowledge Exchange at DMU, said: "We think this is the first conference of its kind that combines the two disciplines of food and drink and the creative industries. We're bringing together specialists in the many fields of design, marketing and manufacture who have the skills to make significant differences to food and drink company profits."

Businesses will tell delegates the secrets of their success. As well as Levi Roots, who used his family's secret Caribbean recipe to create a flourishing business, delegates will also hear from Andrew Keeble, Director of Debbie and Andrew's, a farm diversification enterprise that has grown from a small cottage industry to the fastest growing brand in fresh chilled sausages, with Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrison's as customers and a design awards under their belt.

Jonathan Sands, chairman of global brand identity consultancy Elmwood, will also give a presentation. Elmwood's clients include Asda, BBC, Durex, The Football Association, McCain, Royal Mail, and Nestle. The consultancy has won over 100 national and international design awards. They are in the top five for all UK awards for identity, literature and packaging design.

This is a joint event between the East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Creative Industries and Food & Drink Knowledge Exchanges in partnership with De Montfort University, University of Derby, University of Lincoln and Nottingham Trent University. Support has also been given by the Food and Drink iNet (Innovation Network).
