QUILON RESTAURANT UNVEILS NEW WINE LIST

12th May 2008, 2:39pm

Just months after becoming only the fifth Indian restaurant in London to win a Michelin Star, Quilon Restaurant unveils a new wine list.

The list has been specially compiled by Peter McCombie, one of the UK's most renowned Masters of Wine. For Quilon, Peter has handpicked an extensive line-up that complements the contrasting flavours and subtle textures featured on the menu.

The new offering features a great balance between Classical and New World wines, plus an excellent selection at all price points, from a 2006 Domaine Bousquet Tradition at £20 through to a 1986 Chateau Cheval Blanc at £400.

Explains Peter: "We have focussed on wines and/or grapes such as Riesling, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, St Julien and St Emilion that go particularly well with the lighter style of cooking favoured by Quilon. Champagne is always an option with Indian spicing, in fact sometimes the more serious and "winey" the better. The Louis Roederer Brut Vintage 2000 is a particular favourite of mine."

Quilon's new wine list will also include two Indian varieties, the popular Grover's Sauvignon Blanc and La Reserve.

In a rare move for a restaurant, Quilon will also be offering 85 wines as 375ml half bottles. Served by the carafe, this unrivalled selection will present diners with an even greater choice.
The list also includes 12 beers - including such renowned brews as Brooklyn Lager, Deus Beer and Liefman's Frambozen - and no less than six varieties of Sake, an excellent accompaniment to Quilon's legendary seafood dishes from South West Coastal India.
