Pubs welcome Live Music Bill passage into law

27th January 2012, 11:38am

The British Beer & Pub Association has welcomed the passing of the Live Music Bill in Parliament today.

The new laws reduce red tape around live music performances, and in particular exempts venues, including thousands of pubs with a capacity of 200 persons or fewer, from the need to obtain a licence for live music before 11pm.

Chief executive Brigid Simmonds commented: "This is great news for pubs.  For years, we've been saying that many of the regulations surrounding music are unnecessary – they have prevented publicans from making the most of Britain's pubs as the place where live music acts first get a foothold – something for us all to be proud of.

"The Government should implement the bill law as soon as possible - and it could be done by April. Let's make it the first of many measures to cut the red tape surrounding pubs."
