The Print Room

The Print Room

Print Room rolls back into action

14th September 2007, 12:15pm

Since the final newspaper rolled off of the printing press in the early 1990's, the print room at the Daily Echo building in Bournemouth has remained in most parts, largely empty …until now. The Print Room, a traditional French style brasserie, will occupy the former print floor of the 1930's, grade II listed, Daily Echo building.

Located on Richmond Hill, The Print Room has undergone a unique renovation by London-based David Archer Architects, ready for its opening in early September. To ensure the Parisian brasserie reflects the building's original and distinctive Art Deco architecture, the architects have retained the room's infamous high ceilings, adding numerous crystal drenched chandeliers and a classic terrazzo black and white floor, reminiscent of the 1930's era.

The renovated Print Room, with its long mirrored cocktail bar and additional private dinning room, offers visitors the opportunity to dine in sheer opulence.

In addition to the French brasserie, the Daily Echo's former print floor has been divided into an authentic charcuterie, patisserie and bakery, deli bar, grand cafe and a bar area called Ink. Principally for the business market, the Ink bar, located on the corner of Richmond Hill and Albert Road, offers fast lunch-time food.

As well as a bar boasting an extensive range of wines, beers and spirits, Ink also offers a private function and party room, which was previously the Daily Echo Directors old board room.

Whilst Ink principally provides the local business community with fast lunch-time food, The Print Room's extensive brasserie menu and wine list offers diners the opportunity to indulge. Under the guidance of head chef Andrew Robinson, diners can select from a variety of meat, fish and pasta dishes, all of which have been individually created to reflect the brasserie's French sophisticated style. To accompany the brasserie menu, diners can also select from a breakfast and afternoon tea selection.

Local entrepreneur and managing director of The Print Room, Andy Price comments: "Since initially acquiring the Daily Echo's old print room, we knew exactly what we wanted to achieve. Taking inspiration from brasseries around the world, we have created something that I believe pays homage to the building's original 1930's architecture and the newspaper heritage of the old print room. By establishing both the brasserie and the Ink bar within the grade II listed building, visitors are offered an all day dining experience. Starting in the morning with breakfast, working across the print floor to enjoy the charcuterie, patisserie and brasserie, I believe we have created an eatery that is unique to the Bournemouth area."

Capturing the 1930's history of the Daily Echo print room and the elegance of a traditional Parisian brasserie, The Print Room and Ink bar opens on Friday 7th September from 8 am to 12 pm.

From Friday 7th September through to Thursday 13th September 2007, The Print Room will be conducting a training week, in which the brasserie will be offering 50% off your meal (drinks will be priced as normal). This great opportunity extends over breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. In order to secure your opportunity to be one of the first to experience The Print Room please call 01202 789669 to reserve your table.
