Perthshire village hotel is being sold

A village hotel in Perthshire has been placed on the market through the Glasgow Office of business agents, Christie + Co.

The Red Lion Hotel occupies a prominent position on Balkerach Street, within the historic village of Doune, which is situated on the River Teith and is seven miles from Stirling.

A well proportioned detached property, the hotel has four letting bedrooms, a 16-cover dining room, a public bar, a small function/meeting room, two-bedroom owner's accommodation and a bunk house, which sleeps approximately 10.

Since the current owners acquired the property in January 2005, they have spent a lot of time and effort re-decorating the property internally and externally and it is now regarded as a fine village hotel, with turnover increasing each year; resulting in high levels of net profit.

Doune is situated close to the historic Doune Castle, which was once a royal palace owned by the Earls of Moray and in latter years was used by Charles Edward Stewart to hold prisoners from the battle of Falkirk.

The castle is acknowledged as one of the finest medieval structures in existence in Scotland today. The village, which was once well known for its manufacture of pistols, is about to be expanded with a further 200 houses planned.

Graeme Smith, from Christie + Co's Glasgow Office, who is handling the sale, commented; "The hotel has built up an excellent local reputation for its comfortable welcoming atmosphere, traditional pub food and restaurant. Due to its location within the village, the business benefits from return commercial trade and high levels of local support.

The hotel is currently run entirely to suit our clients' requirements so there is potential to develop the restaurant and function side of the business. It is set up perfectly for an owner/operator type establishment."

Christie + Co is seeking £310,000 for the freehold interest of the Red Lion Hotel.
