Over 70 eateries triumph at Hampshire Hospitality Awards

A record breaking 75 eateries have been recognised as having a great welcome and service and offering good food and the use of local produce served by attentive staff, in this year's Hampshire Hospitality Awards.

The awards, which are now in their fourth year, showcase the best that Hampshire has to offer in the hospitality sector.  Businesses in Winchester, the Test Valley, East Hampshire, North Hampshire, Gosport, Portsmouth and Southampton were visited and assessed by Quality in Tourism for this year's accolades.

Assessors from Quality in Tourism undertook a mystery shop at each business and awarded successful entrants with Quality Assessed or Superior Assessed (80% plus pass mark) awards.  Some businesses were also presented with an additional award recognising their use of local produce.

Superior awards this year have gone to The Chesil Rectory in Winchester and Lainston House Hotel near Winchester.  Other noted winners include Truffles Restaurant in Portsmouth and Greens Restaurant and Bar in Wickham.

Mark Dodd from The Chesil Rectory said: "This is the icing on the cake since re opening & transforming The Chesil Rectory 12 months ago. We were delighted to receive a Superior Award in our first year of entering the Hampshire Hospitality Awards. Receiving this recognition from an external assessor gives us credibility, enhances our reputation and encourages new customers to come & try our quality, locally-produced food in this historic & welcoming setting."

Sarah Davis, Hampshire Area Tourism Partnership Manager for Tourism South East, added: "This has been an outstanding year for the Hampshire Hospitality Awards with the high number of awards reflecting the superb quality of restaurants, pubs and hotels we have in the county.  I urge businesses to enter next year when we are hoping to top 100 awards."
