Over 20 London hotels compete for Hotel & Catering Challenge Cup

20th August 2010, 10:17am

PJ Search is hosting the 'Hotel and Catering' 7 a side football one day tournament for the second year running in Bishops Park on Sunday 19th September, in support of Peace One Day and with all proceeds going to The Springboard Charity.

A total of 24 London hotels, including The Mandarin Oriental, The Ritz and Hilton Park Lane, have submitted their teams all of whom will make their way to Bishops Park in Fulham for the official kick off to play for the coveted Challenge Cup, won in 2009 by The Dorchester.

Paul Gilley, founder of PJ Search & Selection, a recruitment company serving the hotel and catering industry, devised the notion of this Challenge Cup back in 2009, which in turn led to Paul running a successful hotel football league of 15 teams, which culminated in the Lancaster London winning in July this year.

"I strongly believed that the tournament should support the industry I've worked in all my life. I was introduced to The Springboard Charity, a charity that helps the young, unemployed and disadvantaged people who are looking to find careers in the hospitality industry and was really impressed with the work they do. It was then a natural decision for me to give any proceeds we make from the tournament directly to the team at Springboard."

Last year the tournament also supported Peace Once Day, an organisation that supports the global day of peace and uses football as one of its core means to spread a message of hope globally. The official day of peace falls on the 21st September and the Challenge Cup will again in 2010 support the day scheduled to take place on the 19th September.
