Under the 'Large Organisation' category, Orchid was praised for its 'Steps to Excellence' training programme which gives employees a route to progress through the company.
The Steps to Excellence scheme gives deputy managers the skills they need to move up to become efficient and effective managers, with a focus on customer service as well as driving sales.
The development of the programme has created a real appetite amongst staff to win a place. It has also created an internal management talent bank full of candidates qualified for internal promotion. This is now the first port of call when a general manager vacancy arises, and helps to cut the potential costs of making a wrong appointment.
At the same time, people joining the company have a positive message that there are career pathways open to them, whist customers also benefit from dedicated service.
Marie Wheatley, Personnel Director at Orchid says, "Investing in people increases loyalty and improves motivation levels. We make sure training needs are met, talents are nurtured, key strengths are developed and, most importantly, individuals' career goals are achieved."
The National Training Awards are the UK's most prestigious awards for training. They recognise the impact that excellent learning, training and development have on achieving outstanding organisation and individual success and provide a benchmark for excellence in training in the UK.
