The brainchild of hospitality company, the Orchid Group, 100 of its family dining pubs have been busy collecting – and have been inundated as a result.
Generous customers have donated all sorts from recorders to saxophones and violins to tambourines. Bigger items have been given too, including grand pianos and even full sized- organs.
To celebrate the success of the 'Big Noise' scheme, youngsters will be making just that – a big noise – by coming together on World Music Day, Tuesday 21st June 2011.
Children taking part are from all over the globe including projects in India, Kenya, Cambodia and South Africa.
UK cased children's charity, the Rainbow Centre offers music therapy to bereaved children. They'll be taking part and Angela Emms the centre director said: "Kids love nothing better than making a noise but as well as being great fun, music therapy can enhance expressive and interactive ability, and it can also provide a means of socialisation, sharing, and developing."
Tarah Cunynghame, marketing manager at The Orchid Group added: "We're very grateful to everyone who has donated instruments so far and can't wait to see all the little ones making some noise on World Music Day. Not only will it be great fun but really educational too, as the children involved will be able to learn about music all across the globe."
