Obika sells one of its London ventures

2nd August 2010, 8:57am

Obika, the Italian founded international mozzarella bar chain, has sold one of its London outlets.

Acting for the brand, leisure property agent Davis Coffer Lyons advised on a surrender and a re-grant of a new lease for the 2,600 sq ft site on Northumberland Avenue owned by Club Quarters Hotel, to Umi Sushi, a privately owned restaurant operator based in Dubai.

Umi Sushi offers a classic sushi menu and operates from an outlet in Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai.

Obika, which operates nine restaurants across Italy and a further three in Kuwait City, New York and Tokyo, has one remaining outlet in London within Selfridge's. Its offering is based around Mozzarella – dubbed 'the new sushi' by the Independent – combined with other artisanal products typical of the Italian tradition.

Rob Meadows, acting agent at DCL, said: "Northumberland Avenue is now picking up from the buzz of Trafalgar Square with a number of hotel developments along the street in recent years. Umi Sushi's offer will complement this."
