Novus Leisure group adds to London portfolio

Novus Leisure, the privately owned restaurant, bar and nightclub group, is expanding its portfolio up to 30 bars, with the launch of Abbey opening next month in the City.

Previously Bar 38 and originally on the site of a convent that housed the order of Sonores Minores (Little Sisters) in 1293, Abbey has completed a full refurbishment worth £600,000.

There are currently eight London venues belonging to the group with current operations including Abacus, Alibi, and Agenda.

The restaurant group teamed up with Harrison Design to create an establishment that combines atmosphere, quality and style in a relaxed setting.

The 500-capacity bar and eatery is spread across two floors. The ground floor is open with timber flooring and banquette seating, while the downstairs area features contemporary chandeliers and movable seating to allow a dance floor to take centre stage.

Key features of the eatery are the pre-bookable areas appealing to both the local corporate and leisure markets – serving a range of salads, sandwiches and lighter snacks. The venue is also available for hire at the weekend.

Sorrel Ward, head of marketing, Novus Leisure, commented on the new addition: "We are really looking forward to the launch of Abbey, a great deal of research and investment has gone into the project which we hope is reflected in the venue and the offering. It's a fantastic addition for Novus Leisure and indeed the City, and a roll-out of similar venues is in the pipeline."
