Ben & Jerry's goes Fairtrade

Ben & Jerry's ice cream has announced its commitment to go Fairtrade across its entire global portfolio. From Americone Dream to Chocolate Fudge Brownie, all of its flavours in all of the countries where Ben & Jerry's is sold will be converted to Fairtrade certified ingredients by the end of 2013. Company co-founder Jerry Greenfield said: "Fairtrade is about making sure people get their fair share of the pie. The whole concept of Fairtrade goes to the heart of our values and sense of right and wrong. Nobody wants to buy something that was made by exploiting somebody else."

Piedeal at London's pubs

In celebration of British Pie Week (1-7 March), a selection of top London pubs are offering diners a homemade pie and a pint for just £10. Ventures taking part in the deal include The Avalon, The Stonhouse, The Abbeville, The Bolingbroke and The White Hart. Dishes include wild boar and chocolate; rabbit, girolles and chestnut; Middlewhite pork, mustard and cider; butternut squash, spinach and goat's cheese; steak and ale; as well as cow pie.

Paul Young wins Best Chocolate Book in the World award

Chocolatier Paul Young has won the 'Best Chocolate Book in the World' award for his first cookbook 'Adventures with Chocolate' at the Gourmand World Cookbook awards held in Paris last week. Young commented on the accolade: "Adventures with Chocolate was a labour of love for me and I'm delighted it has been so well received both by my customers and by the critics. I hope it inspires people to experiment with chocolate and discover a new appreciation for this wonderful, delicious food."

The Brickhouse introduces comedy Tuesdays

The Brickhouse in London has announced that it will be launching comedy Tuesdays events. Guests can sample the food on offer at the venture while watching the different performances. The five course set menu is just £30 including entertainment. Dishes will be created by head chef Matthew Reuter. Comedians include Shappi Korsandi, Robin Ince, Nick Doody and Tiffany Stevenson.

London is most sought after location when looking for hotels

Going by the keywords used when UK consumers went online to conduct a search for a hotel over the festive period, London was by far the most sought after individual location. This is according to the latest independent report from Greenlight, a search marketing agency. The study, which analysed 1,300 hotel-related keywords for this purpose, reveals a total of 7.5 million online searches were conducted by UK consumers in the UK in December. London hotels accounted for 9% compared to just 1% for Las Vegas, Edinburgh, Dubai and Paris.
