New summer function area at The National Theatre

The National Theatre on London’s South Bank has launched a new summer function area this month which is available to hire for events all catered for by the theatre’s in-house catering team.

Designed by A-EM Studio, The Deck consists of a large translucent cubed structure with retractable glazed walls which open out onto a large decked alfresco terrace, with views stretching from St Paul's and the towers of Westminster Abbey.

The eatery, which is available for hire until October, acts as a black canvas for any event, seating up to 80 people for lunches and dinners, and accommodating a further 100 for conferences and 120 for standing receptions.

Menus on offer are seasonal and subject to change. Dishes served up by executive chef Simon Flint range from barbecue food and canapés to miniature street food for standing events to four-course dinners.

The street food menu features Yellow Corn Pancakes with Mango and Pimento Relish, Tortilla with Spanish ham, Potato and Cheese, Miniature Lamb Burger with Chorizo and Piquillo Pepper, and Korean Kimichi Cabbage Pancakes.

And the barbecue menus include dishes such as Sirloin with Szechuan Pepper, Monkfish and Sweet Potato Brochettes, and Giant Tiger Prawns with Garlic and Lemon.

The Deck hire charge ranges from £75 per person for a day rate or £4,000 for all day use.
