Michelin-starred restaurants help Livebookings pass two million covers

Online restaurant reservation system, Livebookings has passed the two million covers mark, saying more Michelin-starred eateries such as Hibiscus and Gordon Ramsay's Maze are turning to the web.

The number of online reservations is growing at more than double the rate of last year. Despite the economic downturn, Livebookings is growing 107% year on year. However, not every reservations manager, publican or restaurateur is embracing the digital age.

Recent industry statistics from Livebookings show that the number of restaurants in the UK using an online bookings system is still in the region of just 7%.

David Norris, chief operating officer for Livebookings said: "Every restaurant wants to boost bookings as well as offer fantastic food and service. Establishing an online bookings system and offering targeted deals means restaurant managers can maximise their restaurants' potential and let staff focus on doing what they do best - serving customers.

"A high number of premium restaurants are now offering online reservations and special offer deals to diners via their websites. Customers don't want to be bombarded with deal after deal, but at the same time, even the most well-known restaurants can benefit. In the past they may never have considered running offers, but are now seeing significant returns on those that they are running."

New figures from Livebookings show the number of restaurants now using online bookings for the first time has risen by 91% from summer 2008 to summer 2009.

Furthermore, the number of restaurants now taking online bookings from their own website has also increased by 69%.
