Marco Pierre White to open Chelsea sports bar

4th June 2008, 3:42pm

Marco Pierre White and Frankie Dettori will this summer open another 'Frankie's' bar and grill, off the back of previous successes.

Opening at Chelsea Football Club's home ground Stamford Bridge, the two will offer an affordable menu alongside a casual drinks environment in July.

Due to be situated next to the critically acclaimed restaurant MARCO, Frankie's Sports Bar and Grill will offer visitors carefully crafted Italian dishes, as well as burgers, steaks and salads.

Customers can watch sport on screens around the restaurant, which is the fifth Frankie's in London.

Marco explains why he's excited about the concept: "People don't always want to go to a pub to watch the football, they want to watch the game in civilized surroundings and eat a good burger and for every pound you spend we give you more than anyone else."

Originally an Arsenal supporter, Marco admits he has a soft spot for Chelsea, he is adamant he would not have opened a restaurant, let alone two, at any other football ground in the country.

He said: "Chelsea's my manor. I've lived around here for 26 years now, so I love these streets. My children were born in Chelsea and I was insistent they were born here. So deep down, I am a Chelsea fan, really. If I had to open a restaurant somewhere else then I wouldn't be able to make it personal. Chelsea is a class act. They're a great. They're special."
