M&B pubs driven by food

25th July 2008, 3:34pm

Mitchells & Butlers, owners of Harvester and All Bar One has today said that trade is continuing to be pushed forward through food sales and the trend doesn’t seem to be stalling.

The group announced like-for-like sales up 1.1% in the 10 weeks till 19th July.

In a statement the group said: "This reflects continued strong demand for food in our pubs and pub restaurants and a resilient performance in a declining on-trade drinks market."

M&B also said that pubs must continue to offer good value food and that the company is in a good position to take advantage of this trend.

Two thirds of total sales are now generated by a food driven visit and beer accounts for only approximately a quarter of sales, it said.

The group did warn that consumers are still watching their pockets and as market conditions tighten, consumer spending will weaken.
