Manager throws punters a party – to celebrate pub success in spite of recession

29th July 2010, 11:27am

The Greyhound pub in Finchampstead in Berkshire, which was recently taken over and overhauled by new owners is to throw a huge thank-you party - complete with free food and champagne - for its loyal customers this Friday.

The celebration is to mark the success of the business's first year of training that has bucked the recession-fuelled trend of losses for the pub industry.

The pub will throw its doors open to its local customers for its first summer garden party. The pub/restaurant will put on a feast of free food that includes barbecue grub and canapés, topped off with free drinks and champagne.

The soiree, which is due to take place from 5pm until late, will not only be held to celebrate the pubs economic success in the last year, but also to mark the pub's many improvements including the completion of a new veranda area.

Other completed improvements that have proved worthy of celebrating include adjustments to the pub's garden area with the addition of new decking, lazy chairs and other furniture such as Balinese day beds and sails.

The transformed pub was snapped up last year by entrepreneur Ross Sanders and his boutique pub and restaurant company Urban & Country Leisure. An investment of £850,000 was spent transforming the Greyhound into a "stylish new boutique style" pub.

Manager at The Greyhound David Peevers said: "We would like to say a big thank you for the support of our local customers in Finchampstead who have helped make the Greyhound such a success in its first year.

"It's the local support of our community that has helped re-focus and re establish the Greyhound to become a focal point in the community.

"We are throwing a summer party with free food, drink and a live band and I look forward to welcoming our customers old and new this Friday."
