Loving the Loveshack

Exclusive clubbing has been brought back to Durham thanks to Fluid Design Solutions and their unique design and transformation of Loveshack.
Previously an empty shell at the Walkergate development in Durham City, Loveshack was completely transformed by Fluid in only eight weeks to create the increasingly popular venue it is now.
Bob Senior, Director of Utopian Leisure, had a very distinct vision of how he wanted the club look. He says: "I basically envisioned a 1960's ski lodge with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
"We wanted Loveshack to project a basic fundamental design that was well finished without being too slick. It was important for us to normalise the space and make people feel at home, whilst ensuring the décor was fun to casually put a smile on people's faces."
And Loveshack certainly does that. The interior is teeming with bright colours and combination of patterns to create a lively environment. Vintage furniture is set against the unique wall lighting to merge the old with the new.
You can take your pick of unusual seating, from Dali-inspired lip-shaped sofas and shoe-shaped chairs, to the main feature – a parked VW campervan complete with plush seating and an open-top roof.
Dave King, Managing Director of Fluid Design Solutions said: "Loveshack was a project that we could really have some fun with and although we had to re-design some elements as we progressed through the renovation, we were very pleased with the overall result. The finished product is comfortable and fun, but still maximizes space for a practical business model."
