London restaurateur Malcolm John acquires former Smollensky’s site

16th November 2009, 2:08pm

Acting on behalf of administrators, Christie + Co has sold the former Smollensky’s Burger Shack in Sutton, Surrey, to restaurateur and chef Malcolm John for an undisclosed sum.

The former Burger Shack site becomes the second ex-Smollensky's restaurant acquired by John through the agents, after he purchased the former Smollensky's Metro in south Croydon last October, which was subsequently re-opened following a refurbishment as the 80-cover Fish & Grill — Malcolm John.

The chef and restaurateur plans to refurbish the former Burger Shack and re-open it as Brasserie Vacherin Malcolm John at the beginning of December.

The relaunched 80-cover restaurant will also feature an additional external 40-cover seating area.

John also currently owns Le Cassoulet in south Croydon, and Le Vacherin in Chiswick, London.

Steve Darbon, director at Christie + Co, said: "We are delighted to have again helped Malcolm John expand his estate of restaurants by introducing him to this well-located site. We are confident the restaurant will prove an instant success after its refurbishment and relaunch."
