London hoteliers benefit from Farnborough Airshow

30th July 2008, 12:41pm

London hoteliers reported a revpar increase of 35% during the seven days of the Farnborough Airshow compared to the same period last year, according to hotel performance data STR Global.

Overall London hoteliers reported an 18% hike to £144 revpar for the first 20 days of July. With hotel rooms almost sold out, with an 88% occupancy, the increase in average room rate drove the revpar growth.

The peak of the week was on 15 July, with revpar reaching £198.

Whilst occupancies during the seven days increased just by 2% compared to the same days in the previous year, it was the average room which had lift off – experiencing a 33% increase to £174 compared to £131 in 2007.

Over 1,500 exhibitors showcased their products to the industry from 14th to 20 July. The air show organisers expected around 140,000 business visitors in the first five days of the event.

STR Global has been created by research companies Smith Travel Research (STR), Deloitte's Hotelbenchmark and The Bench.
