Licence revoked at Saki Bar in Manchester

18th February 2010, 12:10pm

A Rusholme bar that caused problems for residents by playing loud music until 4am at weekends has had its licence revoked.

Manchester City Council's licensing sub committee made the decision, against Saki Bar on Wilmslow Road, after hearing evidence from the City Council's environmental health team and Greater Manchester Police.

Now, unless the bar's owners appeal against the decision within the next few weeks, the premises will have its licence permanently removed.

The City Council received complaints from residents about loud music coming from the bar, which could be heard up to 100 metres away.

There were also problems with groups of drinkers gathering on the streets outside.

Councillor Jim Battle, deputy leader of Manchester City Council, said: "This premises was having a detrimental effect on local residents, who complained about noise and other problems linked to the bar.

"Although we tried on numerous occasions to work with the premises' owners, they ignored our offers of assistance and we had no option other than to revoke the licence.

"Most licence holders across the city operate responsibly, but when businesses are run with such a blatant lack of concern for their neighbours, they should be in no doubt that we will take serious action."

It's not right to revoke the licence of Saki bar. I'm a customer over there in the cafe/bar on a daily basis as all my friends work there. A few problems occured there on different several weekend days but nothing was serious. I believe that the owner is workin with the council to work this out. Also what i didnt understand is how neighbours are annoyed with the music. Saki bar is located in front of a line of resturants from one side, the Whiteworth Park from another side and is surrounded by another pub from one side and a coffee shop from another.
